Seems to me, a Café au Lait dahlia holds all the nostalgic warmth of summer’s final breath.

It is only now that the second flush of not quite as oversized blooms are nodding at the edge of the season that the colours truly make sense…

as if dipped in the soft light of a late August sunset, the petals unfurl in creamy layers of blush, sand, and faded rose

not just one note, oh no… it’s an entire melody of warmth.

The cafe au lait dahlia carries the memory of all those garden walks on sun-steeped evenings and just before the dew got time to evaporate early clover scented mornings...

… the beige of sun-bleached linen, the pink of a now-treasured seashell, the ivory of melting gelato savoured on a garden step.

None of it loud, none of it showy...

but absolutely lean-in-closer hold-your-breath magnificent,

… like the last sip of a perfect first of the day cup of coffee on a not yet over summer morning.
