So not so So-so after all

So, in the dappled shade of a temperate ordinary day, nestled amongst choices so perfectly passable that they are at most satisfactory, an unassuming So-so prepares for its okay-ish performance.

Oh yes this is where we encounter the So-so in its natural habitat, flower buddies—a flowering vine filled with creative potential as ancient as the forest itself.

Its budburst, often described as ”perfectly fine”, sprouts… well… predictably “nice enough’ without the possibility of failure or needing to struggle to get it done. Good enough without even trying, really.

So-so vines pretend to bask in the ample average filtered through the emerging canopy. Shielded from all possible disappointments that accompany making creative choices and side-eyes from getting too excited by exciting influences and achy tiredness from “wow… you made this extraordinary” type effort. Because the So-so knows, it’s a tough game if you care.

But every now and again you can find a brave So-so vine, there on the nexus of the mediocre and that barely audible whisper of “I could have created something so great”—between the “meh” of so-so and extraordinary’s meaningful promise.. in flower!

You see, on a special day (very much like today, actually!) pollinators—small but consistent creative efforts and humble tries and those get-better-at-my-thing choices—drawn by personal mastery rather than public validation, land hesitantly triggering the So-so to bloom. This subtle alliance has endured for millennia, unchanged, unhurried.

And soon… extraordinary creativity happens. This once unremarkable So-so burst into flower. The petals unfurl high from the undergrowth, opening into pure inspiration, sharing its uniqueness in ways that complement nature rather than consume it… fleeting and precious and meaningful jewels above the fertile forest floor, ephemeral and exquisite.

Such are the choices of the natural world, flower buddies—quiet, enduring, and endlessly astonishing.
