Christine de Beer - effortless floral craftsman

A summery way for tiny flowers to glow inside a hydrangea composite fan

Gather a large bundle of hydrangea leaves into a rose...

If you are unsure of how to gather the rose see the Tutorial below for detailed instructions.

Slip the hydrangea foliage rose into a long and low display container.

Pour water into the container to make sure the hydrangea foliage is standing in deep water to keep it hydrated.

Come summer time I like to craft my designs using water not just for hydration but also as a design element. Lots and lots of cooling water. Book readers turn to page 103 where we discuss water. For more information about my book: The Effortless Floral Craftsman

Slowly let the rose shape fan out by pulling the individual leaves towards the side of the container.

Tuck and pull on the leaves to reposition them into a fanned out rose shape

Groom the lobelia flowers to make sure you have elegant stems that will reach all the way down into the water in the container so that they remain hydrated.

This week in our email I explain a bit more about how I groomed my tiny, tiny flowers to make sure they hover like butterflies in my summer display. I send out an email every Wednesday morning (Vancouver time) the moment the latest design is ready for you to view. I also explain a small detail to take note of when looking at the design so that you can make the most of each week's inspiration. The sign up is below this post.

Dot in a few of the lobelia flowers every here and there to settle between the foliage and make sure the stem ends are below the water line.

Add in a few clematis vines to hover over the design...

Groom and arrange Schizanthus flowers to flutter just above the hydrangea foliage rose-fan.

Design note: isn't the colouring of the Schizanthus stripe just a perfect match with the clematis vine? So pretty!

And as always I am finishing my design with a few dew drop crystals. See the Tutorial below for detailed instructions on how and why I place my crystals with a pin.

Every week I add a new design with related tutorials. Be sure to subscribe to receive an email notification with design inspiration.
