Draw a heart shape to use as a template
Cut out the heart shape
Place the heart shape template on a flat display surface
See the detailed Tutorial below for instructions on how to make test tubes from drinking straws. For this design I glued the cut straws straight onto the display surface. To remove the straws once the flowers are wilted soak the platter in warm soapy water. The straws will easily come loose
Seal the cut straw piece with hot glue
And place it on the outside of the heart shaped template
Continue to place straws following the template
Each straw slightly apart from the one placed before
Follow the heart shaped template leaving spaces to create a decorative pattern
Remove the paper template
I make a simple tube and syringe to fill the drinking straws with water. See the Tutorial below for detailed instructions
Test each drinking straw tube to make sure it is sealed. Place the plastic tube in the drinking straw
And slowly fill it with water
Carefully inspect the drinking straws for puddles where water is leaking out. Remove the straw and seal with glue before replacing it
Once the surface remain completely dry all the drinking straw tubes are ready to use
Stack and glue thin twigs to follow the heart shape
Glue in small clumps of moss
Follow the heart shape but make sure the drinking straw tubes remain exposed so that the flowers will fit snugly
Build up the heart shape one tiny twig at a time
All the way around the heart template
Make sure the twigs are just placed in such a way that it will support the orchids
Place the flowers in the drinking straw tubes
Glue in a few more pieces of moss
And sprinkle with artificial snow
