Drill holes in a piece of lumber
Clear out the hole before fitting the dowels
The dowel stick should fit snugly in the hole
Wash the wood with a wet brush dipped in a weak mixture of paint or vegetable stain to match the twigs
See the Tutorial below for more detailed instructions on how to stain with natural dye
Continue to build up the colour of both the dowel sticks and the lumber layer by layer so that you can still see the grain of the wood
Fit the dowel sticks into the hole when the stain is dry
The armature is now ready to design with.
