On my online workbook this week: A Happy, Merry, Jolly (easy as that!) Eucalyptus Christmas wreath
Dear
This week's inspiration is a less… but better
I love all the traditions of Christmas… but at the same time I also like my decorations to reflect the year and be memorable. It gets rather expensive buying all new Christmas decorations each year… not to mention where would you put it!?! And trashing it really is still putting it somewhere. So my tip for you this week: Do not spend the bulk of your design budget on something trendy or a passing novelty item.
Invest your resources in a collection that is classic, neutral and amazing quality that will go with anything for years to come. Marius and I collect glass and crystal stars, snowflakes and icicles for our Christmas tree. You might prefer a collection of handmade wood ornaments or pottery. The idea is to purchase one (or so) beautifully crafted, quality ornament each year to add so that you curate your ornaments rather than accumulate. This even goes for sentimental home made decorations. Less but better. And then you can add that trendy colour in ribbon (even the best quality ribbons are relatively inexpensive and can be re-purposed) or craft something natural like fresh flowers in water tubes, eucalyptus roses, pine cone roses, twig baubles, wire baubles, eucalyptus snow flakes or novelty items to make the design distinctive.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
ps: This tip really applies to items you purchase for events and design work as well, not just for Christmas.
