On my online workbook this week: I am a fan!

Dear

This week's inspiration is... … have you ever noticed the more permanent a design detail the more lifeless it appears? Using a dried flower can look dull quite quickly. Perk up the dried flowers by letting them hover over the design rather than be buried in the design. Add vivid colours, add sparkling dew drop crystals… add the most gorgeous rosary vine flowers. Or add all of them… anything to add more life.

My tip for you this week is about adding all those add ons. The rolled points in the fanned book create a solid flat surface for you to design on but be careful, some of the floral material might still need a bit of help staying above the pages.

Once you have your branches in position you have a space to hang some design details from to take off some of the weight. But it is still important not to warp or disfigure the fan shape… I mean we went through all that trouble folding it neatly.

The best way is this: give everything longer legs to stand on. You can also do this with the branches (see the snippet image below) if you find that they are too heavy or slip between the pages. Gluing (or wiring t-pieces onto your design details helps them to effortlessly (see what I did there?) hover over the pages. See the picture above.

Here are a few Tutorials for inspiration:

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine

Snippets...

Give the branch a support by Slipping a twig with a fork in it to stand upright between the pages. Cut the twig shorter so that it is hidden below the pages and then rest the branch in that twig fork so that it carries the weight of the branch and prevent it from sagging or slipping between the pages.
