Apple Tsantsa for All Hallows' Eve
I used 6 apples for my shrunken heads
Make sure the stem is still attached so that you can hang your apples from this stem
Peel the apples
The apple distorts as it dries so you dont need to be neat
Cut two slices at the side of the apple to shape the bridge of the nose
Slice away the middle of the bridge of the nose to shape the forehead
This gives you the basic face shape
Hollow out the eye sockets to shape the eyeballs
Shape the nose
Shape the lips
Carve the cheek bones to give the head character
As you carve you will see the apples brown
Paint your apples with lemon juice in the areas you don't want it to turn brown
Set the apple heads aside to dry out
Move the apples around so that it dries everywhere
As the apples dry they develop more character
Going from rather friendly looking fellows
... to fellows that might know something you don't...
... to definitely knowing something you don't...
to rather having fun knowing something you don't...
as every self respecting Halloween apple head should
String up a few black ribbons to dangle from a twig
Tie the appleheads to dangle from the ribbon ends
and add a few strands of rosary vine
as the apples hang it will dry out more and become even more wrinkly
until finally dropping...
