On my online workbook this week: ‘Twas, and still is adding a bit of our own nature to our wreath details that really Crafts a special Christmas

Dear

This week’s inspiration is the tiny touches that can’t be bought that make our own celebrations unique.

Last week I showed you a way to cut the orchids so that you have more design options with how the flowers are positioned on the stems. This week my design note for you is a really useful way to get your orchids to stay firmly in the water tubes even in a design that moves like this wreath. Urgh! This would have been so useful to know for my Canada Blooms competition design years ago! (see the link below the post for that design) I had to inspect them to make sure they are still in the water tubes three times a day!

Cut the orchid with a bit of the stem attached (see the pictures above) above and below the flower so that you can push the stems together as you insert them deeply into the small water tube. When released the stems open up and kick tightly to wedge into place. You can still easily top up the water around the stem but the orchid will not topple out of the water tube.

This is perfect if you need to travel with a design and are worried that some of the orchids will wiggle out of the small water tubes. No matter how much the flowers get shaken about (I even held it upside down) the orchid remains in place and all you need to do when you arrive is to make sure all the tubes are still filled with water without having to reposition the flowers. It saves so much time!

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine

ps: Talking about celebrations…. We are also celebrating this week. This is design week 777 for me. I have added a design with an original Tutorial to my website for 777 weeks straight. Not a single week missed!
