On my online workbook this week: Dream Rescue
Dear
This week's inspiration is designing good habits.
The secret to this barely there shelter is that it is impossible. Those grasses that seemingly stay exactly in place so effortlessly just so? Nope- they are glued in place.
Maybe it is because I started out designing for shows where members of the public view up close, walk around and even interact with the designs or maybe I am just super cautious but my designs, even the most delicate ones, must survive a shake test. This has saved me a lot of time (and heartache) because you never know when a design that you thought is already exactly in position needs to be moved or someone bumps into the table or drops something on it. These are a bit extreme but it happens.
Design with this in mind. Glue down little hovering bits. Make sure the things wedged into other things are in place real good. It is part of your practice when designing- to find the least visible way to secure things. It really must be in the most invisible and natural looking way possible for your design. And then take a deep breath- and shake it. Repair what is not yet stable and give it another wiggle. Not earthquake strength shakes but just enough of a wiggle to be sure.
And do this every time you design. Let it become a habit so that when you are under pressure you do this instinctively and when something goes wrong you know you can rely on your mechanics.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
