On my online workbook this week: As if by magic
Dear
This week's inspiration is … invisible mechanics. Mechanics are a lot like magic. Once you can see how it’s done the magic escapes. Actually you should not even be able to tell that you needed some kind of a trick to do what you did in the first place. Only people who are fellow magicians are interested in seeing how it was done. The anthurium stems in this design are heavy and will simply crush the gyp or fall to the edge of the vase without a sturdy grid wedged into the vase to support it exactly where you want it… but you would only know that if you have tried levitating heavy flower stems before.
My tip for you today is: spend most of your time on mastering your craft. On perfecting your “trick” so that it becomes effortless- you can read more about this in my book. For this design that means making sure the grid is firmly wedged into the vase and securely in place before you add even one flower. Time spent on perfecting your mechanics is never wasted. It takes way longer and never looks quite right if your mechanics fail part way through designing and you are trying to fix it or work around it. And anyway you will just feel miserable the whole time working on something that is not quite right… so not the point of working with flowers! If things fail… undo the design and start again. It actually saves you time. I know it’s tempting to continue or think you can “make do”. Take a deep breath, learn from what went wrong and fix it from the start up. It looks better and cuts down on hours of frustration.
Shared with love, as always. Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
