On my online workbook this week: A warm up

Dear

This week's inspiration is the beauty of the first frost.

My tip for you this week is to weave the wreath up into a tube rather than tightly around the shape to eliminate bulk and give us an extra bit of surface to work with.

Normally when we weave a wreath we twirl and weave in stems (or wire) to create a thicker shape. In this design I wove the wire in to create a tube shape. When you lift the wreath you now have about a 6cm (2 inch) “ledge” all around the wreath for you to rest the design details on. Later in the season you can easily add something more festive like a few baubles or Christmas trinkets or even small decorative bud vases (like empty perfume sample bottles) instead of water tubes to comfortably nestle into this space created by the wider wire edge.

It is also ideal for designing with vines that are delicate, like this Love in a Puff vine. The wider surface of a tube shaped wreath gives you a greater circumference to wrap and weave the vine without damaging the delicate stems, tendrils or flowers. Take care not to bend the vines at a sharp angle that may prevent it from taking up water and remaining hydrated.

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine
