On my online workbook this week: Whatever floats your boat
Dear
This week's inspiration is… coming unstuck.
Ah yes… this is one of my tried and tested ideas.
This time I am going big (bigger than usual for this technique)… and staying home. If you know my work you have probably seen me do this: I float flowers using a tiny bubble wrap skirt. It’s actually one of my most popular Tutorials. Flowers naturally float in water. They just don’t always naturally float on water. For that they sometimes need a bit of help. Water slowly seeps in between the petals to pool and weigh down the bloom so I give them a bit of a lift by placing the flower on bubble wrap.
... which in a roundabout way brings me to my tip for you this week: it's about those times when you find yourself a bit stuck for ideas. There are so many tips and techniques for preventing and avoiding creative burnout. I want to add a “... and then” to each and every technique you might find because in my experience there’s only this one thing that really works: … and then you go do your work.
Get yourself going. I know it’s hard and you are experiencing every kind of resistance possible. … and then you go do your work.
My work-around is to start with those core techniques (you can read more about this in my book) and pick one and see how you can redo, improve or expand on it. No need for perfection. You just need to do it. And then pick your next core technique and rework that. And then your next. At some point your creativity will kick in again and the ideas will flow. But you have to get back into it. You have to go and do your work as soon as possible.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
