On my online workbook this week: Vigorous growth!

Dear

This week’s inspiration is patiently watching those seedlings slowly develop their smooth and simple seed leaves (Cotyledon leaves) to provide initial energy for your precious seedling to establish a root system… every five minutes... to see if you can spot the first signs of those true leaves unfold to finally confirm that you labeled the tray correctly after all!

And then my design note for you: want to instantly look more confident as a designer? Adding too many great ideas into one design distracts more than it contributes.

And then within that one brilliant idea of yours edit it again to make sure it creates a unit.

In this week’s design I wanted to show you vigorous growth so my tendrils are crawling up and over the side of my fishbowl vase pulling the glass container and the leaf-pod into the design as the vine climbs. By visually linking all my design elements (for instance with line, mood, palette, or in this case gesture) they join in the conversation with the rest of the design elements creating a unit to help me tell my floral story.

When design elements create a unit it creates harmony. It instantly shows intention rather than a collection of slightly unrelated ideas.

And that is how we craft lean-in-closer designs where the viewer can relax and truly appreciate that brilliant idea of yours. Now their eyes travel smoothly, discovering details without feeling lost.

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine
