On my online workbook this week: This season all the stylish pumpkins will be wearing them!
Dear
This week's inspiration is playing dress-up.
My tip for you this week is about placing things that lead your eyes to a point, especially dominant non floral accessories.
As a floral designer I believe the flowers (or plant material) should always tell my story and all accessories are there merely to support. But accessories can be so visually strong that you have to find ways to minimize their effect. One trick is to offset this point of focus.
The vegetable mesh bag in my design has a gathered end- once you place it over the container the gathered end will be so dominant that it will inevitably become the focal point of the design. To lessen the visual impact of such a dominant feature, place the gathered end slightly off centre. This helps the viewer take in the entire floral story, wondering from flower to flower to pumpkin until it finds the dominant object without the eye immediately going to the centre and getting stuck there. Then add something pretty to this point to fully incorporate it into the design theme and lead the eye back to further explore the design.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
Ps: if you are enjoying Spring where you are now... I have an alternative idea for you for re-purposing the mesh bag: butterfly nets. The link to the Tutorial is below this week's design.
