On my online workbook this week: The tiniest drop

Dear

This week's inspiration is how even a tiniest drop of kindness ripples out.

My tip for you this week is all about adding just the right amount of weight.

Yes… if you were thinking the Kenzan is maybe a bit of an overkill and not strictly necessary (although I do like the effect of the flower slightly hovering secured in the metal teeth) for the single orchid you are absolutely right. The orchid can also float and bob about in the water without the heavy metal Kenzan. Then why? Because it makes it easier to weigh the grass down in the exact place I need them around the shallow container. With just the weight of the kenzan it is still light (but heavy enough) to adjust the grass to the exact spot you want it while designing but then…

I wanted the blades of grass to be long and wavy so that they sway in the slightest breeze once placed. This means that the grass might move as they sway in the vase if they are not secure. Once you add the glass chips to the container to conceal the Kenzan that is right in the bottom of the top container and add the water to keep the orchid hydrated you have the perfect weight to keep everything secure (even with a cooling breeze or moving the vase into a display area) without restricting the grass to the point where it adds a kink, fold or restricts movement or interferes with the hydration of the plant material.

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine
