On my online workbook this week: Take a Stab at it

Dear

This week's inspiration is designing outside your comfort zone.

In the process of cleaning out my design room drawers I stumbled upon this lime green wire and sparkling beads. I thought I might like them… but they are soooo sparkly and… well… so much lime green! My natural style is way more of a soft organic minimalism. But I am trying to add colour to my natural style… hence the bright green. Can’t say I am convinced to the point where I would do it again. But also can’t say I disliked it enough to remove it this time.

My tip for you today is choosing things to add to your work in such a way that you are continuously challenged to develop and update your natural style. If you really want to develop your style make sure what you choose is outside your natural comfort zone every now and again. Even a bit uncomfortable so that you are challenged in a way that makes you grow. Just a bit of dark green wire (if you normally use no coloured or sparkly wire) will not teach you the same lesson as a shiny lime green wire. The goal is to make that something that is not at all “you”, a bit more “you”. You can always tone it down (or up!) once you know where your “comfort zone” and “evolving style” meets. Make sure you are still challenging yourself enough to keep growing. Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine

Amazon is also a quick way for you to have a good look inside... you can read the first 38 pages for free!
