On my online workbook this week: So not so So-so after all
Dear
This week’s inspiration is a quiet victory of growing something extraordinary and hoping it survives winter. And then on a special summer's day, as special as today… pretty special, right?
As special as our three pebbles because oh no, no, no... any three pebbles will not do. You will have to puzzle out three really special pebbles that when you place them together create a design gap that will support your flowers exactly where you want them.
The hardest part of this entire design? Exactly that… choosing our few pebbles. You need three pebbles that curve ever so slightly so that when you place them in your display container they look natural... but you have a convenient gap to place your flower (-s) in.
My first tip is to place the pebbles on their sides so that they create a supportive base. If the base of pebbles are too flat the flowers will topple.
Here is how I test how high the pebbles should be to support the flowers: Put your hand flat on a working surface. Open your fingers slightly. Slip the flowers through your fingers and pinch them closed. If the flowers remain upright you can use tiny pebbles to support the flowers. If it wants to topple, keep the stems to touch the working surface but move your hand slightly up on the stem and away from the working surface. Keep testing the minimum support the stem needs to be stable without toppling over. This is how high your stack of pebbles needs to be to support the flower.
You might need larger pebbles or create a stack of pebbles depending on the size of flowers you want to support. Take note of the height… and go searching for pebbles to make up the support stack.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
