On my online workbook this week: Ship Shape

Dear

This week's inspiration is hovering in line.

This design is all about the parallel lines. They are carefully aligned to stay just so. I have two tips for you to keep the lines... well... at least naturally... perfect.

Firstly keep the spray rose stems flat footed- with that I mean do not cut the stems at an angle as you would normally be instructed. I have a further explanation for this in my book on page 265 and also it helps the stem stand more securely in shallow water. For more information about my book: The Effortless Floral Craftsman

Then as you design the stems may accidentally move into a more angled position. Simply take a long twig and nudge them back (picture 1) into a perfectly upright position and secure them with a wheat stem to lean against.

The same for the parallel stems that are part of the armature. Because the reedy wheat stems can sometimes have some unpredictable curves from the node out you might want to adjust it slightly to keep the parallel lines neater. They should be as perfectly upright as possible to create the ghostly mast feel of the design. Add connection stems (picture 2) that extend from inside the armature to the vertical lines to offer them extra support and ensure that they are anchored perfectly upright.

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine

ps: have a fun and flower filled Halloween
