On my online workbook this week: Looking forward, a plenty
Dear
This week’s inspiration is the creative potential of watching the seasons unravel and entangle again.
My tip for you this week is about the inside of the horn of plenty. At first I wanted it to have a cheeky uptilt to it (and if you want that the pictures above show you exactly how to lift it with a split twig support. Simply split a fresh twig at one end. Split it over the edge of the container and prop up the woven cornucopia with the other end of the twig. Conceal it with curled grasses) but when I looked into the horn I noticed how gorgeous the weaving pattern looks from this angle.
Viewed from the side, the basket weave is solid and well… predictably basket like, right? Maybe too solid for the delicate geranium flowers I absolutely wanted to display. But then viewed into the cone, from the front, the grass is blade thin and barely there! It gives the entire design a shimmering dream-like quality. Like it is a porthole or transition into another season. What a great illusion to use in a design where you might just be passing by and maybe glance at… for a stop-to-notice floral design moment instead!
We rarely get to look at a basket weave from this angle.
When you look at plant material as a source of inspiration consider the angles you might not usually notice. What inspiration can you find in the sepals of a flower? The thin leaf blade? A knobbly node?
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
