On my online workbook this week: It’s butter… nuts!

Dear

This week's inspiration is thinking ahead

A little preparation work can cut out a lot of frustration and crushed flower material. You really don’t want the butternut to roll about just when you think everything is exactly right! To begin with, you need a plan to lift the butternut above the waterline so that it keeps fresh. The twig grid sorts that out. But the grid can also help to secure the butternut into position. Especially since securing or pinning it with a pick in place is not possible when you are designing without foam.

My tip for you when you want to design with heavier elements like fruit and vegetables in armature designs or suspended designs is to test which way it naturally leans before placing it. It makes it so much easier to balance something at an angle if it already naturally balances that way. You can simply play with it a bit and see how it balances on your design table or an even quicker way to test it is to let it bob about freely in a tub of water. Notice how it leans? Dry and then place it like that in your design.

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine
