On my online workbook this week: How to lay a little bit low
Dear
This week's inspiration is perseverance.
My tip for you today is a bit unusual… but in my signature way. It is tempting to just cover the flowers with silica gel and simply dry them. But be mindful of how exactly the flowers grow on the vine when you place the flowers. They don't all face perfectly flat forward. Reposition the flowers as you add the gel to prop up parts to create a more natural effect. Once the flowers are dry they become brittle and break easily making it impossible to reposition… ok… not quite impossible... bonus tip this week straight from my book: You can use lotion (I prefer Vaseline Intensive Care) to dab on dried plant material to make it a little bit more pliable again. Use just a little and wipe it clean once done so that it is not greasy and attract dust, but yes, it really works!
And about my book. This week is officially my book’s first birthday. And while it feels strange to talk about celebrating something in a time like this… it occurred to me that it is probably the best possible time to celebrate something. While I am so aware of everything that is going on around me. Of how it affects Marius and Me. Our work families. Our families. Our friends. Our community, country and everyone all around, I find myself in my design room typing up this design post. Once we have made the commitment to stay inside and flatten the curve I was wondering what is the best way I can serve. And it occured to me: There's something to be said for continuing sharing beauty with each other... and getting back into at least some of our normal routines to contribute towards a sense of consistency to reduce the number of variables we are all exposed to. For showing up.
From my side that means sharing my new design and connecting with you on the My Creative Workbook website... as I do every Wednesday.
So… as always… Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
Ps: If you have a copy of the partially handcrafted craftsmanship edition of my book… it has just become very rare indeed! They are all sold out. You can purchase a copy of my hardcover book exclusively from online retailers from here on. The book is still artist quality, hardback and made to the highest standard but it is a more regular size (slightly smaller but a little thicker) so that the retailers can offer you free shipping and are no longer stitch bound by hand. A special thank you to everyone who has supported me by purchasing my book in its first year. If you are a maker of stuff… even more a maker of stuff that is important to you, you know how much the support means.
