On my online workbook this week: From all sides
Dear
This week's inspiration is an angle.
My tip for you this week is a bit of a cheat. Want to be able to balance floral design elements effortlessly at rather spectacular angles? Easy! Choose floral design elements that are already leaning (growing) in that direction and simply place them as you would a puzzle piece to effortlessly slip into place. Even if you are greatly skilled at manipulating plant material you will get the best results if you go with the natural tendencies already found in your material.
Some are easy to see right away- like the Monstera leaves in my design. This one nods its head and can easily curve over the vase without any effort on my part and that one looks up to the side that way- perfect! Flower heads like roses are harder to see so place them in the water filled open neck vase and just let go... and pay attention. They will naturally settle in place and you can simply look to see which one is best suited for where. Then you can go in and enhance or exaggerate (how much is up to you, as a designer) what is already there to create your design.
The greatest skill for a floral designer (and gift from floral design) is to master letting be. It’s a collaboration with nature every time you design.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
