On my online workbook this week: Do and Don'ts
Dear
This week's inspiration is an impossible bottle.
My tip for you this week is to focus on the vine when creating this design. The flowers will float- for sure. This technique has been tried and tested and tried and tested again. All your creative energy can be invested into getting the vines into position.
For the vine to have a lovely drape inside the container it first needs to kick against the side of the container. For this it needs a firm enough stem to be able to keep itself upright. Rather than measuring the vine length you require from the tip to the stem end, measure the vine from the cut stem end to the tip when choosing which vines to design with. You need at least the width of the container in firm stem end allowance for the vine to support itself. Then cut lower down the vine to accommodate the drape at the tip you require. Half and half works wonderfully. Half firm developed stem and half swirly vine tip. The vines will also continue to grow (even root) creating a lush display around the floating flowers- which you can easily replace in time. Next step is to pay attention to the placement of the vine tips. The vine tips need to not only be healthy but positioned so that they are obviously flourishing. Don’t squish the tips into an unnatural position when wedging the stem into the container. Point the tips so that they turn to a general “up” position so that they don’t even hint at looking like they are on the verge of wilting.
Then lastly you can position the vines so that it divides the inside of the container into smaller spaces so that the flowers don’t float into clumps. Layer the plant material by placing a few flowers into the container and then adding a vine. Follow up with a few flowers more and again a vine.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
