This week’s inspiration is looking pretty in petals.

I have been invited to be a regular columnist for the Canadian Florist Magazine and will design and write a bi-monthly article for them discussing floral craftsmanship. This month is also the perfect time for floral designers to start preparing for wedding and prom season and I thought it would be interesting to look at the design considerations for creating unusual floral accessories and body flowers.

Brussel sprouts. Nope, it’s not the beginning of a joke. Brussel sprouts are not only trendy in culinary circles but the humble little sprout is also showing up in trendy floral designs.
 

If you love detail in design work as much as I do, you will adore Japanese artist Takanori Aiba’s Bonsai tree castles. He uses resin, copper and clay to build tree house like castles in mature bonsai trees. Have a look at his work Takanori Aiba It’s unbelievable!
