On my online workbook this week: Carry On

Dear

This week's inspiration is … get going.

As the year is now in full swing you might be looking for a tool bag refresh. My tip for you this week is about finding treasures that will create unbelievably believable mechanics. Look for those “ this is so XXX for its XXX. This is so light for its size. This is so pliable for it’s thickness. This is so transparent for its thickness. Those are the things you want to fill your tool bag with.

The best mechanics are an overkill on the things that matter and understated where you think to look for how this all stays like this. For my design I used jewelry wire to keep the stems in place. They are strong but thin enough not to damage the stems. They are also smooth and easy to adjust. Once all the twigs are wired in, turn the basket on its side so that you can inspect all the twists. This is a great opportunity to also adjust the wires so that it is tightly threaded. It is what keeps the basket from buckling. Give any wires that require to be tightened, another twist here at the bottom. Press the twists flat so that the basket stands securely.

Craftsmanship is magic. When you do it right there should always be a: “… but how is this even possible…?” or “how did you do that!?!” moment.

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine
