On my online workbook this week: Balanced Attitude
Dear
This week's inspiration was... well... if I am honest the elegant necks of the calla lilies. They are terribly pretty, right?.
My tip for you this week is finding that something that is extraordinary about your flowers and then exaggerate that. For me it was the way these long and elegant stems of the calla lilies were angled. I did not need to manipulate them in any way. But they are a strong design detail and need some drama to balance it out. If the stems of your calla lilies are shorter simply add less leaves on the other side. The more leaves you add the wider you can let the lilies extend. Extend the shorter stems by allowing them to "kick" against the side of the vase so that they do not need to stand on the bottom.
I have added a Tutorial below the post if you want to adjust the angle of your calla lily stems. But be mindful how much you adjust the stems because designing with stems in this way is only possible if the stems are firm. If you need to manipulate the stems to create the angle it can sometimes weaken the stems and they will simply flop over. They might firm up slightly once conditioned but never really as much as the unmanipulated stem.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
