On my online workbook this week: At Play

Dear

This week's inspiration is that kind of simple ideas that are often the hardest to do.

Oh yes, this is one of those. If the plant material you are using in an armature continues to grow it means it continues to move. We need to offer a bit of extra security for wildly enthusiastic growers such as vines. Make extra sure the armature doesn't get dragged along by gluing the twigs to the container.

My tip for you is how to get an almost invisible glue line. Try as hard as you can, mechanics are never truly invisible. To compensate for this I glue all the twigs as carefully as possible from one direction… and then I flip the design around and display it so that it is viewed from the other. Also… and this is probably a bit of a controversial opinion but I love seeing hints of mechanics. I think most designers do. I look for the artist's hand in art. Great craftsmanship is something that should be admired. Don’t try to be too perfect- just make it perfect enough that it makes the truly interested onlooker lean in closer to see how the magic is performed. This way the casual onlooker will glance and still see the pretty. But for us? It’s a bit of an inside secret you get to share.

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine
