This week’s inspiration is designing with… water. A tall drink of water for an Amaranthus swizzle stick.

Using floral glue... and Amaranthus is a difficult combination. The tiniest drop of glue will completely spoil the Amaranthus because it is impossible to remove without damaging the inflorescence.

My design note for you is an easy (an quick!) way to add the sedum right into the Amaranthus without smudging floral glue all over the design.

Cut a tiny stem (see the pictures above) from the plant. Cut right above a leaf so that you have a tiny bit of stem that can be covered in glue. Dip the stem end (or use an applicator) in the glue. Bend open the inflorescence to expose the stem. Insert the sedum so that the stem secures to the Amaranthus stem. And when you release the inflorescence the sedum is neatly snuggled and all signs of how you secured it neatly concealed within.

As a finishing detail make sure the inflorescence hangs straight down so that the lines in the design remains clean and strongly vertical.
