On my online workbook this week: Strength found in a warm copper coloured glow

This week’s inspiration is leaning into the change of season with a new found appreciation for the coppery colours… and I have already told you how much I love designing with the flat copper wire you can only unravel from a copper scrubber, right?

My design note is also about leaning into putting a bit of extra effort into making your own design details. Apart from your design details being one of a kind, your design can also elevate your entire design by making your design details yourself. The biggest benefit of making all your floral details yourself is… you know how it was made. You can easily deconstruct it to add a suspended moment of magic into your design because you know where to push and where to pull without losing the structural integrity of the details.

Oh! and before I forget, look at the pictures above: instead of simply placing my grass bundle on the stick to craft the broom… and done... I gave the whole bundle a twist. Grasp the bundle on both ends and twist. This gives the broom bristles that swept in around a corner flair. It is subtle but it adds so much character to the design and it is the whole reason why the broom looks like it is in motion… a simple twist in the making. Amazing, right?

So, if you needed permission to make an extra bit of an effort, there you go. Effort makes your design details more meaningful on so many levels and therefore… priceless!
