On my online workbook this week: Staycation

Dear

This week’s inspiration is the stuff you pick up. I can safely say that most of my general knowledge comes from researching random things for my designs… so here we go: octopi, octopuses, and/or octopodes (?) have eight limbs. You can either say they have eight arms or six arms and two legs. But not eight tentacles. Oh no… because you see, the limbs are covered with suction cups and a tentacle has suckers only on its end. This beachy fact was brought to you by… my staycation.

So… my tip for you this week is to give the grass a twist before securing them to a pebble. An octopus crawls along the seafloor by extending, bending, and twisting their eight arms. I wanted my grass octopus to have the same propelling “crawl” over the pebbles. Exactly like that THING! that touched your foot that one time when you were tip-toeing over the seafloor in the ocean...?

A twist in the blade of grass gives each stem a lift so that they do not look droopy but it also gives you the poised to propel octopus-like spill. I then lock (and distribute) the tension evenly, in place by pinching the cut end below the water between the rocks and gluing the tip end somewhere on a dry spot on top of a rock.

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine
