On my online workbook this week: Making spirits bright

Dear

This week's inspiration is getting into the Christmas spirit.

My tip for you this week… well… I have said it before… make your mistakes while you can easily rectify them.

Cut and lay out all the twigs on your design surface before you start to assemble the sleigh. This way you can adjust the sizes and even swap out the twigs to match with little to no effort. Once you start assembling the sleigh it is so frustrating to realize you wanted a thicker stem or a daintier one somewhere already wired in place. And in a small design like this it might mean having to start over. Or much, much worse, settling for a result that is not exactly what you want.

Same when it comes to finishing the design, I left the ribbon long and dangling right up to the last moment.

I am not much of a bow person. It is just my personal style. I prefer my ribbons to look like the wind helped me arrange it. It adds so much personality, I think. For elements in a design that adds personality (like in this case the ribbon) it is best to keep your options open until the last moment when everything is assembled so that you can adjust it to overemphasize this one element. Finish everything, stand back and look at the design from a fresh perspective. And then snip away what is not needed.

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine
