On my online workbook this week: Light as a Kite

Dear

This week's inspiration is enjoying the breeze after the heatwave.

My tip for you this week is about positioning the sunflower stem. It is absolutely the most vital part of the design! Not only do you spike the wire and the twigs into the disk floret to keep everything in place but… and this is the trick: it sets the tone of the personality of the design.

Have a good look at the flower heads when picking the stem to use. Choose the disk floret carefully to have the natural feel you want to have for the design. The sunflower will have curves that can be used to express what you want the flower ‘Kite” to interpret. A yaunty curve will give a cheeky kite. An upturned disk floret will give you a hopeful kite. A downturned head will give you a more thoughtful kite. Position the disk floret in the water filled vase and inspect the stems “body language”

What is it saying…? Then go in and enhance that with the other floral details.

Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine
