On my online workbook this week: Last full Moon of summer
Dear
This week's inspiration is seeing the prettiness because (not in spite) of a grey day. A grey bowl and grey pebbles and grey twig and grey foliage… and then a pop of orchid! By paring down the visual distractions you really notice every design detail, don’t you think?
My tip for you this week is all about utilizing such small exaggerations to your advantage.
In a design like this our old nemesis Gravity is the most important consideration.
If you get the balance wrong, even slightly so, the vase will tip out the water and flowers…. urgh!
So don’t underestimate how heavy the tiniest of design details are when crafting delicate designs.
The secret is choosing magical ingredients. And with magic I mean illusion: a pebble that is deceptively heavy for its proportions, a dried eucalyptus twig that is unusually strong for its thickness, the orchid buds are unusually light for its size and a vine that is unusually pliable for its length.
Put together it creates the illusion of being an impossibly delicate design when in reality it is quite robust and oh so secure.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
