On my online workbook this week: In dribs and drabs
Dear

This week’s inspiration … is coffee. Oh dear fantastic coffee that becomes double as cozy as the temperatures start to drop. A mug of coffee while… have I mentioned to you that I have been hard at work writing again? Uh huh... turns out I have more to tell you! I do love my milky coffee on an early autumn (I know not quite yet… but a girl can dream…) morning.

My design note for you is to make sure to remove the hair-fine glue strands that are inevitably left behind when you secure the dried grass. The strands tend to pull into a sticky spider web that will make it harder and harder for you to position the grasses to curve straight up (like licking flames) around the container when you shape the grid.

Hold each strand in the position you want it to secure while the glue cures. It will take no more than a second, maybe two but it keeps the grasses perfectly upright.

Of course you might ask why hot glue then when there are other mechanics that can be used? Simple, hot glue is ideal for securing plant material to glass because it can be soaked in warm water to remove without damaging the glass in any way. No chemicals needed, no effort needed. Simply soak and the glue pops off. If you want to take your sustainability practice even further (and you do, right?) you can scoop up the hot glue and melt it down again in a glue pan to reuse.

Every good wish,

Christine

They person who got to name a 'Café au Lait' Dahlia should be allowed to name more things! Whipped up in an early Autumn display... uh huh... delicious.

But because it is a Dahlia 'Café au Lait' … we can have a whip of grass and hint of Autumn to sprinkle on top, right?

Sure a classic French café au lait is simply equal parts brewed coffee and steamed milk and not traditionally served plain with foam, cinnamon, cocoa powder, or sugar on top... but this... is... just as delicious!
