On my online workbook this week: I Break For Beauty

Dear

This week's inspiration is finding balance in beauty.

The tip for this week is reducing stress and frustration by taking your time to craft a firm foundation.

With any armature design first make sure your foundation is stable… even overly so. Make sure the design will be balanced even if you encounter unexpected design challenges. As you go along with the weaving, place the design on your working surface as it will be displayed and give it a wiggle. A supported armature gives you so many design options. Having to fix a wobbly armature once the heavier flowers are positioned is so much more stressful than taking a break and getting it right from the foundation up.

For this egg design I wove a flat base for the egg to stand on. Once the base is done, set the willow egg aside so that it can dry into this flat base position. If it is difficult for you to manipulate the twigs to create a flat base, place something heavy inside the egg shape (like a water filled container or a pebble that fits in the inside) that will press the twigs down to stand flat on the surface while it dries into the shape.

By taking your time to let the base twigs dry flat you create a well balanced armature. Now you can simply enjoy adding the flowers and chocolate eggs into whatever position you like without any risk of it toppling over.

Happy Easter... Enjoy!

Every good wish,

Christine
