On my online workbook this week: Have a floral adventure, really
Dear
This week's inspiration is being open to let things fill you with wonder.
My tip for you this week is about concealing something in your design in a way that does not attract more attention than if you left it out in the open.
My go to for concealing a Kenzan in water is frosted glass chips, for instance. It is a wonderful all round design solution. They seem to just disappear when wet but still tone down whatever you want to hide.
For this design the trick was to conceal the quite a large surface (and visibly black Kenzan) visible between the plant material in a way that will not distract. I stacked the glass chips over the Kenzan but found that using enough chips were actually too many and they become too obvious. Then again too few chips simply won't stay put and kept slipping off… frustrating! I needed “just enough” chips.
So I came up with the idea to glue the chips into clusters. (see the picture above) and then add the clusters over the Kenzan to conceal it. This is not a permanent solution (which suits me fine because I wash and reuse my glass chips) but it will last longer than the flowers. You can simply peel the hot glue to undo the chips when cleaning up. The hot glue can be left to dry and used again by melting them down in a glue pan.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
