On my online workbook this week: Falls in place
Dear
This week’s inspiration is having enough late salvia flowers opening right to the tip for all the hummingbirds (who are not checking any travel plan schedules, it seems) with some left over for me to design with.
This week's tip is to lift the grass twist up to find its natural curve before cutting the grass shorter. The way that you twist and twine the grasses will change the way it curves when you pick it up. You can not plan this and will just have to let nature help you out here. Hold both grass ends in your hand and adjust the curve by repositioning your hands on the grass stems. If you find it flops in you need to plait-twist in a few more grasses to make it thicker to give it the support it needs to curve. Remember the seed head ends are more floppy than the cut ends. It is the cut ends that will give you an elegant curve.
When you have the perfect curve cut the stems below your hands so that you have a stem allowance to position under the water, in the bud vases so that your fresh plant material remains hydrated.
Once you have the curve in the bud vases you can adjust the seed heads (that did not simply fall into place) back into the curve.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
