On my online workbook this week: Because that is just how I roll
Dear
This week's inspiration is those rules I design by. Oh yes, I am a huge fan of rules. So much so that I dedicated an entire chapter on them in my book. But this week I tell you about my Guiding Rules for the designs I share here on the My Creative Workbook website.
My tip for you this week is all about that little hook on the end of the wire. Let me begin with saying: I love designing with copper pot scrubber wires. It is one of my favourite wires. Not just because it is so versatile and inexpensive and you can manipulate it in ways that no other wire allows but also because it looks so unusual. You notice that the wire is different because it is thin and flat instead of round or large like flat-wire so immediately you have something that sets it apart.
I prefer to add a hairpin hook to the end of the wire to hang dangling bits from. The reason, apart from that it is easier to remove and hang again to make sure the best side faces forward but also for movement. The slightest breeze swings the leaves in a way that you just can’t get with a twisted or secured wire yet it is still very secure and won’t fall off.
Enjoy!
Every good wish,
Christine
Ps: if you are struggling to place the orchids so that the stem remains in the water it might be the natural position of the stem. An easy fix is to glue the autumn leaves to the edge of the vase before adding the flower. This way the leaves will keep the flower in position even if the flower is now at a slightly awkward angle making it easier for you to design around it.
